Job Description:

As we evolve our client engagement strategies, we're looking for an experienced Mainframe Software Engineer to design, develop, support, and analyze large-scale applications and systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and problem-solving skills, show initiative, and be accountable for results.

What will you do?

• Design, develop, and implement solutions using PL/I and xPression
• Lead technical discussions with stakeholders
• Collaborate with team members to improve client experience and processes
• Stay current with emerging technologies and their potential applications at Sun Life
• Contribute to the full application development life cycle and systems integration
• Occasional weekend or evening work may be required

What will you need to succeed?

• 7+ years of progressive information technology experience
• Strong experience using PL/I
• Excellent working knowledge of the IBM OS/390 mainframe environment
• Experience with xPression (v23.4) for document creation
• Proficiency in TSO/ISPF, DB2/SQL, IMS, JCL, Linux and other mainframe utilities
• Understanding of MQ Series and other middleware technologies
• Familiarity with IDz, Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, XML and similar tools
• Strong leadership, planning, organizational, and consulting skills
• Excellent problem analysis and troubleshooting abilities
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts and principles (asset)
• Experience in Microsoft .NET technology stack (asset)
• Knowledge of Insurance and Wealth Investments Financial Service industries (asset)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
