Working in partnership with the Director of Graduate Enrollment Operations and Analytics, the Graduate Admission Counselor is responsible for managing the enrollment process from application to admission decision release, for prospective students seeking admission into Illinois Tech’s central graduate programs. This position will report directly to the Associate Director of Graduate Admission.

COMMUNICATIONS

In close coordination with the Assistant Director of Graduate Admission and the Director of Operations and Data Analytics, the Graduate Admission Counselor will:

  • Have independent decision-making authority to review and make admission decisions for completed applicants for graduate program(s) assigned. Primary focus will be the evaluation of applicants’ qualifications in relation to established admission policy. Determine appropriate scholarship award for admitted students. Actively own applicant assignment load and update student records through each stage of the admission and enrollment process. Meet or exceed weekly application review goals.
  • Oversee special projects related to increasing enrollment of specific student populations or markets, campus engagement activities/collaborations, or other responsibilities as assigned.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • This position works closely with assigned academic departments and programs to set and carry out a holistic review criteria. Follow up with academic departments to ensure a timely faculty decision turnaround for thesis-based programs. Monitor the admission funnel and partner with the broader admission team to achieve admission targets.

Special Schedule Requirements

  • Regular business hours Monday-Friday, 9AM to 5pm CST
  • Long or irregular work hours during peak recruitment periods

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least two to three years relevant work experience required. Master’s degree in higher education, business administration, or other related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one to two years’ experience in college admission that includes demonstrated experience in making admissions decisions for a college or university required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Computer skills required: word processing, spreadsheets, email, experience with CRM systems-Salesforce, Banner preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document decisions within a CRM.
  • Adaptability: The ability to react positively and effectively to change. Welcomes a fast-paced environment and is able to quickly learn and incorporate new information and learn recent technologies; ability to show initiative, organize workflow and handle frequent interruptions and still be attentive to detail, accurate and precise.

  • Typical work environment is an office setting
  • Regular computer keyboard, mouse and monitor use. Repetitive arm, hand, finger motions.
  • Sitting for long periods of time at a desk, exposure and ability to participate in a virtual setting for long periods of time, and the ability to drive/ride in a car and/or fly for specific travel.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Percentage Of Time 5 Work Hours

8:30am-5pm Monday- Friday. Some weekend availability may be required and advance notice will be given
