Primary Purpose:

To maintain all playgrounds, playground equipment, backstops, fences, and tennis courts in a safe, operable, and attractive condition

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Driving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrier

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of playground equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge in all areas of concrete work

Experience:

  • Threes (3) or more years’ experience in all areas of welding
  • Experience in fence and backstop repair and installation

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repair

  1. Maintain all playground equipment, backstops, fences, and tennis courts.
  2. Install new playground equipment, backstops, and fences.
  3. Inspect playgrounds and playground equipment as assigned by the department head.
  4. Report and needed repairs to the department head.
  5. Lay out, cut, and weld special projects as assigned by the department head.
  6. Design, install, and maintain concrete retaining walls for playground areas and estimate the amount of concrete needed.

Safety

  1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing. Operate equipment and use tools according to established safety procedures.
  2. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  3. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools, meters, power tools, heavy equipment, welders ( Mig-Arc- Tig)

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to read; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to understand oral and written instructions
