Job Description:

The Louisiana State University (LSU) College of Science and the Department of Physics and Astronomy seek to hire an outstanding academic researcher and educator at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of Experimental Low Temperature Quantum Device Physics. We invite applicants with a strong track record of research in experimental low-temperature physics, solid-state physics and/or quantum device physics with potential applications in quantum computing and sensing. The ideal candidate’s research will complement and enhance the activities of the Experimental and Theoretical Condensed Matter and Quantum Science and Technology groups within the department.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead a vibrant research program funded by external grants with high visibility, and to mentor young scientists (undergraduates, PhD students, and Post Docs). In addition, the candidate should effectively teach the LSU physics curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is a dynamic and innovative department on the beautiful LSU campus in Baton Rouge with modern teaching and research facilities. Our faculty and students conduct internationally recognized research in Astrophysics, Atomic Physics and Quantum Optics, Condensed Matter Physics of Quantum Materials, Gravitational Physics and General Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics, as well as Medical Physics. The Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics spans all subfields of Astrophysics and Cosmology, Atomic, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Gravity and General Relativity, and Quantum Theory of Matter, Fields and Information. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is part of the College of Science, and is also affiliated with the Center for Computational Technologies, providing excellent opportunities for collaboration and interdisciplinary research with faculty/researchers from Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology and Geophysics, and Mathematics.

Job Responsibilities: (50%) Establish and lead a vigorous research program in physics funded by external grants with high visibility, and to mentor young scientists (undergraduates, PhD students, and Post Docs). (50%) Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervise graduate students' research and dissertations.

Minimum qualifications: PhD in Physics, Experimental Low Temperature Quantum Device Physics or a related field. Experience: strong track record of research in experimental low-temperature physics, solid-state physics and/or quantum device physics with potential applications in quantum computing and sensing.
