Fire (Heavy) Technician I-II (Depending on Qualifications and Experience)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fire (Heavy) Equipment Technician to join our award-winning team. This position is responsible for performing repairs, routine maintenance, and required inspections on the City’s fleet of fire apparatus.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
$4,000 CDL Stipend.
This stipend will begin 90 days after you obtain your Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) and will be paid out weekly. The City provides CDL training at no cost to employees. The required 20 hours of behind-the-wheel training are completed on the clock – so you get paid to train. Vehicles for DMV road testing are also provided.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Automotive Technician I: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE.
Automotive Technician II: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of:
Automotive Technician I: One year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Automotive Technician II: Two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL and ASE Certification within the probationary period. Virginia State Inspector License within probationary period.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

This position is eligible for a $4000 CDL stipend. Depending on qualifications and experience, you may be selected for either a Technician I or II.
