Job Description:
InGenesis is currently seeking a Primary Care Physician (Collaborating) to work with our client. In this role, you will support the delivery of healthcare services to detainees in custody. This position provides clinical oversight and supervision to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at designated detention facilities. The physician does not provide direct patient care but ensures that care delivered by APPs meets standards and complies with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish scope of practice and prescriptive authority for APPs using Form 910.
- Conduct monthly chart reviews (10 per APP) and 100% chart review for new APPs during their first 120 days.
- Provide expert consultation and guidance to APPs on complex medical cases.
- Ensure APP care aligns with federal and state regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including annual peer reviews.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and review relevant materials.
- Co-sign medical documentation as required and ensure proper documentation of consultations.
- Maintain regular communication with APPs via in-person or telecommunication.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution, or certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the state of the duty station.
- DEA license to prescribe controlled substances in the duty station state.
- Completion of at least three years of specialty training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pediatrics (board certification preferred).
- Minimum one year of professional experience providing direct patient care.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR for the professional rescuer, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
- Experience in detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings.
- Proficiency in managing adult and female health conditions, prenatal care, and chronic diseases.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong clinical knowledge and understanding of current medical standards.
- Ability to supervise and consult on clinical care and prescriptive practices.
- Proficiency in electronic health records and digital communication tools.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations.

Physical demands:
- The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking or jogging unaided over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy patients or equipment.
- The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as agility and dexterity, visual, and hearing capabilities.
- Must be able to respond to any medical emergency in the facility, via foot, within four minutes and perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
- Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging detainees or staff exiting the building during an emergency.
