DESCRIPTION

The County of Yolo is recruiting to fill one (1) full-time position in the class of Assistant Road Maintenance Worker OR Road Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Division of the Community Services Department.

Position Details

The candidate selected for this position may be hired as an Assistant Road Maintenance Worker OR an a Road Maintenance Worker, based on experience, and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level are as follows:

  • Assistant Road Maintenance Worker: $53,185.60 - $64,667.20 Annually
  • This is the entry-level class in the road maintenance series responsible for performing, under general supervision, routine and structured activities related to the maintenance of County roads. This position performs a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair modification, construction, and operation of County roads, and operates light trucks and applicable road equipment. This class is distinguished from the higher-level class of Road Maintenance Worker which performs the full scope of technical road maintenance duties.
  • Road Maintenance Worker: $59,508.80 - $72,321.60 Annually
  • This is the journey-level class in the road maintenance series and responsible for, under general supervision, operating a variety of heavy-duty equipment in the maintenance and construction of roads, performing maintenance on assigned equipment, and other related duties.

The ideal candidate for this position is a dependable self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This candidate can follow written and verbal instructions and act as a positive, contributing member of the team. They possess knowledge and experience in the methods, practices, and materials used in road construction and maintenance, and in operation of related equipment. This candidate has the ability to safely perform in all weather conditions. Possession of a Class A Commercial Drivers License and knowledge and experience of road striping and tree trimming are preferred.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications required for a candidate to proceed in the selection process are as follows:

Assistant Road Maintenance Worker

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
  • Experience: No formal work experience is required. Experience in road maintenance or closely related work is desirable.
  • License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher at the time of appointment, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Road Maintenance Worker

  • Education: High School Graduation or possession of a G.E.D. certificate.
  • Experience: One year of experience as an Assistant Road Maintenance Worker in Yolo County, or two years of experience in an equivalent position involved with the operation and maintenance of road construction equipment.
  • License: Possession of a Class A driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.

RETIREMENT

Were you hired into a CalPERS or other public agency reciprocal system for the first time on or before January 1, 2013? If so, you most likely have "Classic" member status. Classic members of CalPERS (or CalPERS reciprocal) agencies who come to work for Yolo County will remain Classic members!

"Classic" member CalPERS retirement formulas are:

Misc: 2.5% at 55

Safety: 3.0% at 55

Deputy Sheriff Safety: 3.0% at 50

"New" member CalPERS retirement formulas (for employees hired into a CalPERS agency for the first time after January 1, 2013) are:

Misc: 2% @ 62

Safety: 2.7% @ 57
