About The Position

Join Hoag’s high-performing Revenue Cycle team and play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and impactful financial outcomes for our patients and providers. As a Collector II, you’ll be the expert behind the scenes—resolving accounts, maximizing reimbursements, and driving excellence across billing and collections.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

You’ll serve as the account representative for Hoag, working with insurance companies, government payors, and patients to resolve payments and account balances. Your role will include:

  • Managing assigned accounts within work queues with precision and urgency
  • Evaluating claims using contract management tools (APC, DRG, APRDRG) to ensure proper pricing
  • Initiating appeals for underpayments and escalating discrepancies in billing or coding
  • Responding to payor and patient correspondence in a timely and professional manner
  • Interpreting EOBs and ERAs to verify accurate payments and educate patients and colleagues
  • Applying knowledge of hospital billing forms (UB04, HCFA 1500) and diverse payor types (Medicare, Medi-Cal, TriCare, PPOs, HMOs, etc.)
  • Documenting all actions in patient accounting systems and accurately coding insurance plan details
  • Establishing payment arrangements and applying applicable rates or discounts
  • Processing bankruptcy and deceased patient accounts when applicable
  • Consistently meeting productivity and quality assurance standards

  • Assist across multiple departments, payors, and special projects
  • Independently research and resolve complex account issues
  • Support and train peers as needed
  • Maintain a performance record of exceeding standards for at least six consecutive months
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the full Revenue Cycle—from authorizations to collections
  • Uphold a clean record with no corrective actions in the past six months

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in a hospital/medical and/or related field or strong background in customer service.
  • Working knowlege of Epic Resolute, Eric Care, and Epic CPOE.
  • Intermedicate Excel knowledge is a must.
