Role Purpose:

The Team Leader has overall responsibility for leading teams in the safe and efficient processing of parcels in DHL eCommerce gateways, including the functional activities of receiving, security screening, processing using automation and manual systems, sorting, containering and dispatch of freight for onforwarding through international and domestic networks.

This is a hands-on role which requires the Team Leader to both oversee and work closely with the team to achieve safety, quality and cost targets. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong leadership ability and be able to motivate others, providing constancy of purpose with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Key tasks:

  • Selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counselling, and performance managing employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures
  • Keep equipment operating by enforcing operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; requiring preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Track and coordinate the receipt, process and timely dispatch of the shipments
  • Meet warehouse operational standards by contributing warehouse information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying warehouse system improvements
  • Maintain inventory by conducting monthly physical counts; reconciling variances and entering data.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Select, orient, train and coach warehouse human resources
  • Receive, process and dispatch shipments withing the set time
  • Measure, manage, report and drive improvement in warehouse productivity thereby reducing operational costs
  • Health and safety of the warehouse staff
  • Security of the warehouse area
  • Ensure compliance to industry regulations

Requirements:

  • 2 years’ experience within airline, transportation or logistics industry.
  • Forklift license
  • Moderate ability in Excel and MS suite of products
  • Excellent communication skills in English, spoken and written
  • Able to build and maintain healthy professional relationships
  • Pronounced ability to use own initiative
  • Quick comprehension and analytical ability
  • A ‘can do’ attitude
  • High level of independence and ability to set priorities
