Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate construction failures, defects and other issues in completed construction projects, including evaluation of design and construction means, methods, and specifications
  • Review contract and sub-contracts for evaluation of scope, specifications, and work-product compliance
  • Analyze construction defect issues in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying construction and engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards
  • Review construction documents and work change orders
  • Conduct unbiased construction defect investigations for various types of clients
  • Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing
  • Responsible for development and retention of clients
  • Support conclusions by appropriate testimony in legal proceedings
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering
  • Four years of civil/structural and/or construction engineering experience
  • Two years Construction project inspection experience preferred
  • Familiarity with construction claims a plus
  • P.E. registration
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel overnight 20% of the time
  • Ability to maneuver in and around an construction site
  • Ability to climb a ladder and maneuver within and on buildings and structures
  • Ability to lift 50
  • Ability to drive to site locations in all conditions
  • Ability to travel by airline
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required
