Position Overview

The Ohio State University’s Department of Arts Administration, Education, and Policy (AAEP) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Art Education to begin August 15, 2026. We seek a scholar whose research, teaching, and service demonstrate expertise in preparing pre-service art teachers to engage learners across the full ecology of disability studies (ability dynamics), inclusive of neurodivergence. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable, and accessible art education at the K-12, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

We conceptualize ability dynamics in art education as an ecological framework that recognizes diverse cognitive, sensory, physical, and socio-emotional needs, emphasizing the intersections of disability, neurodivergence, and other axes of identity. Within this framework, the ideal candidate will advance research, pedagogy, and curriculum development that foregrounds inclusive teaching practices, critical disability perspectives and strategies.

Performance Objectives

  • A successful candidate’s record of scholarship and engagement in art education includes a trajectory or promise thereof and commitment to research, service, and instructional excellence.
  • Teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Demonstrate excellence in student mentorship through undergraduate and graduate student advising.
  • Develop and maintain a productive research program.
  • Support departmental operations as an active citizen through service on committees, project assignments, and/or administrative leadership role.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field by August 15, 2026. ABDs welcome to apply.
  • Research contribution(s) (including but not limited to scholarly publications) that are national in scope and respond to contemporary perspectives in art education.
  • A record of or potential for maintaining a sustained research trajectory that foregrounds critical disability perspectives.

Desired:

  • Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below in the University Description).
  • An ability to engage in scholarly publications and research that addresses disability and inclusive pedagogy in art education.
