Product Designer (Fixed Term contract)

Chip

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our team as we revolutionise a digital-first approach to wealth building on a fixed term contract until the the of the year.

We need someone who understands what our customers need and will act as their champion within Chip.

What we’re doing isn’t easy. We need someone who can look at complicated infrastructure, and cutting-edge technology and find ways to make it simple, better, and more human.

We need a problem solver. A doer. Someone who can make things simple and clear, who’s not afraid to take ownership of challenges facing our product, find solutions, and communicate comfortably and clearly with every level of the business.

We know the solutions won’t always be simple, but you should be able to explain them in a simple way.

We want someone who will join our team to improve Chip’s product proposition, steer it with the customer in mind and not accept anything less than the very best.

About the team

The Chip design team is integrated into a number of internal teams called Squads that aim to solve the most critical user problems. These Squads are made up of Product managers, Engineers, Content writers, Customer relationship managers, Data analysts and Marketing. Working in a collaborative way to discover, define and deliver value to our users in a continuous delivery process. Cross collaboration between squads is essential to ensure customer journeys are seamless and well connected experiences.

What you can expect to be doing:

  • As a fixed term contract Product Designer at Chip we expect you to be able to quickly assimilate into any Squad and get started on projects quickly with limited onboarding time.
    • Adapt to multiple projects and manage your own workload with limited supervision
    • Collaborate and communicate frequently with a number of stakeholders for rapid feedback and iterations to then drive projects forward.
  • Deliver high impact product designs at speed using your problem solving expertise
    • Design well considered, tested and validated end to end outcomes that can be delivered in incremental ways, constantly bringing value to users
    • Work to bi-weekly cycles to always be ahead of delivery needs, which will empower the full team to understand the implementation roadmap
    • Review, critique and approve production releases alongside stakeholders to ensure quality experiences are delivered to users
    • Help define how outcomes will be measured, success metrics and expected impact
  • You’ll be part of a team that helps grow Design practices and evolve problem solving processes at Chip
  • You’ll work closely with the Head of Product Designer, in order to stay aligned to the business expectations of your contract role and discuss the impact you are having

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience working as a contractor in fast paced b2c start up environments and a portfolio that shows your ability to turn around projects in short spaces of time
  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant commercial experience in a comparable UX Design or Product Design role, ideally with scale up / start up experience
  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • In-depth knowledge of Product Design methodologies - esp. Design Thinking - across the full range of user-centred design activities
  • Excellent practical skills with Figma
  • Played a role in the design of mobile first product design and launch in a fast-growing company before
  • Experience of working in an agile environment
  • Experience of working in a scale-up environment and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Being data-driven in your approach, with experience of using data to inform your design.
  • Any experience in financial services - preferably in technology-driven & scale-up environments - is an advantage, but not mandatory
  • You have excellent communication skills and you can build long-lasting relationships with your stakeholders across functions and communicate problems and solutions at all levels
  • What we’re doing here at Chip excites you!
  • You understand and share our values

What we’re really looking for: ✍️

Someone with a genuine interest in Chip and is excited about being part of a fast-growing company and our mission to build the investment super app of the future.

Although we’re in the financial space, and under the scrutiny that comes with it, the current product team works well together, and even sometimes with a smile. We’re sure you’ve got the technical skills, otherwise, you would have stopped reading by now, so let us be clear on what will make us want to work with you.

We want a real person, with interests outside of work, to join our team. You could be a dancer, a gamer, a musician, a parent, a hockey fan, or even that one person that still writes Twilight fan-fiction. Doesn’t matter to us.

At the interview stages, we will be looking for empathy, eq, fun stories, and the ability to smile even when things are tough.
