CNC Machinist Job Summary
We’re looking for a forward-thinking CNC Machinist with experience in 5-axis machining to help lead the way in our precision wood furniture production. This newly created role is ideal for someone who thrives on innovation—especially in fixture design, programming, and process development. Working with Onsrud CNC machines and Fusion 360, the right candidate will take ownership of part setups, toolpaths, and quality output, all while shaping efficient workflows in a fast-paced, design-driven shop.
CNC Machinist Responsibilities:
- Program and operate 5-axis Onsrud CNC machines to manufacture intricate wood components with precision and consistency
- Design and implement specialized fixtures to enhance setup accuracy and repeatability
- Use Fusion 360 to create advanced toolpaths, simulate multi-axis movements, and streamline CAM programming
- Read and interpret CAD drawings, applying creative machining strategies to meet tight tolerances and custom design needs
- Conduct routine machine maintenance, monitor tool wear, and troubleshoot issues to reduce downtime
- Perform quality checks using measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, or CMMs) to ensure dimensional accuracy
- Collaborate with the production team to improve processes, reduce cycle times, and guide operational efficiency
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area that reflects high craftsmanship and accountability
CNC Machinist Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience with 5-axis CNC machining; familiarity with Onsrud machines is a strong plus
- Proficient in Fusion 360, with the ability to generate and optimize CAM paths for complex geometries
- Solid understanding of G-code, advanced machining techniques, feeds/speeds, and tooling for woodworking or similar materials
- Ability to read technical blueprints and apply GD&T principles in a real-world production setting
- High attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and confidence working independently or as part of a cross-functional team
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or machining certifications preferred
- Background in wood furniture manufacturing or composite materials
- Experience developing custom fixtures and process innovations in a production setting
- Exposure to other CAD/CAM platforms like Mastercam is a bonus
- Ability to support training efforts or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Schedule and Pay:
- Monday - Friday, 5am-1:30pm
- $25-$32/hour DOE
