Overview
Performs manual & clerical duties related to the shipment of component and finished goods, inventory, materials, supplies & equipment and effectively follows the process for shipping hazardous materials. This position will be fully trained in all Material Handling equipment within the Shipping department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports order fulfillment, order picking, order packing. Provides shipping documents including BOL invoice, etc., Receives and puts away parts.
- Achieves and maintains productivity standards, follows all safety guidelines, and maintains acceptable dependability level.
- Builds pallets and loads palletized product onto trucks. Loads by hand and with use of material handling equipment ocean containers.
- Trains and assists Material Handler I to proficiency. Mentors other operators on Material Handling duties. May act as a backup to the Unit Specialist.
- Inspects personal production, to achieve and maintain quality standards, may make recommendations for improvement.
- Leads department projects collaboratively to provide quality product and services to our internal and external customers.
- Effectively follows the process for shipping hazardous materials, including the use of “Hazmat-how-toread” stickers and appropriate use of shipping documents set by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and carriers.
- Receives products from other areas and records serial numbers, project numbers, production orders, replenishment orders, and change logs. Responsible for PQRs, accurate cycle counts, processing late sales orders, and amending shortages.
- Routinely works with the company ERP system, various shipping software to access necessary product and shipping information.
- Performs consolidation and kitting by reading production orders, material check lists, and knowledge of product kitting.
- Recommends appropriate carriers for the most cost-effective shipping methods, efficiently loads containers and packages, taking into consideration space requirements and size evaluation, and performs a final audit before products are shipped to customers.
- Follows safety guidelines, identifies potential safety hazards, and initiates corrective action when necessary.
- May drive company truck to pick-up and deliver product to appropriate buildings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to interpret picking list to effectively pull product for shipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate information, both orally and in writing, along with the ability to resolve discrepancies with various departments.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations with an understanding of decimal/fraction equivalence.
- Must be HazMat certified or become certified within the first 90 days in the job.
- Must show demonstrated ability to use tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential shipping functions (i.e., counting scales, shipping systems, and computers).
- Fully trained in all Material Handling equipment in the Shipping department (Pallet Rider, Hyster, Standup Hyster, walk behind pallet jack, WAV)
- Must have or obtain qualifications to operate various motorized material handling vehicles (lift trucks, stock pickers, pallet jacks, conveyors, etc.), along with demonstrated ability to use other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions (i.e., counting scales, shipping systems, and computers). Demonstrated ability to use parts handling equipment effectively and safely.
- Demonstrate understanding on how to develop a load plan based on the unique order (staging & Loading, LTL, FTL, Container & Air)
- Must be willing and able to build shipping pallets with cartons weighing 50-100+ pounds daily
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicable product line knowledge along with ERP and bill of materials systems is recommended.
- Preference also given to those with shipping software familiarity.
