Job Summary

The Development Manager will report to ERI's two directors, leading the institute's fund development. Securing sponsorships for certain events and programs. Because events are closely associated with stewardship and development, the position will contribute to event planning and coordination.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Leads proposal development and grants management for federal, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Meets with funders, consults with ERI program staff, handles prospect research, proposal development and writing, writes grant reports, budgets, and coordinates with Office of Research Administration.
  • Manages ERI's annual fund and individual giving programs and coordinates IU Day crowdfunding campaigns, manages monthly reports, thank-you cards, year-end appeal, one-off appeal/campaigns, coordinates with IU Foundation, donor meetings and stewardship.
  • Serves as point person for guest lists and hospitality at ERI events linked to fund development including Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference, McKinney Climate Fellows Celebration, Sustainability Symposium, and Climate Chat.
  • Coordinates special Projects such as donor newsletter (3x per year), ERI cross-functional team projects, ERI leadership team duties, IU meetings/events.

General Responsibilities

  • Identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, and manages a portfolio and/or region of donors building a pipeline for solicitation.
  • Executes plans and designs campaigns to sustain and increase donations.
  • Collaborates with development colleagues university-wide to align prospects/donors' interests with university funding needs and opportunities.
  • Maintains meaningful and consistent contact with potential donors to communicate university goals and solicit their support.
  • Introduces campus/school fundraisers to appropriate gift prospects for cultivation.
  • Documents communications, analyzes data, evaluates success and makes recommendations for change to campaign strategy.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years of experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field

Preferred

  • 3 years of experience in fund development - fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, grant writing, major gifts, annual fund, and sponsorship
  • Experience in proposal writing including federal grant proposals and/or project proposals to individual donors and/or foundations
  • Experience in grants management and reporting

  • Knowledge of and capacity to coordinate with climate, environment, sustainability funders

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$70,000 - $75,000 per year
