Architect - Platform Engineering

Slalom Cloud Solutions team builds robust systems and empowers customers to confidently navigate their cloud journey by implementing the right technologies to achieve sustainable, real-world outcomes. Our mission is to deliver exceptional cloud solutions by seamlessly integrating strategy, execution, and deep cross-functional expertise. We support organisations in adopting best-in-class cloud technologies that drive excellence, efficiency, and innovation. With a strong focus on partnership and a customer-first approach, we enable businesses across ANZ to unlock the full potential of the cloud and deliver measurable impact through tailored, scalable solutions.

What You Will Do

As an Architect, you will design and build Modern Data Platforms that enable high-velocity platform delivery and developer environment enablement using a DevOps mindset. You’ll work hands-on with the latest cloud technologies—primarily in AWS—to lead DevOps strategy, architecture, and implementation. You'll combine deep technical expertise with a consultative approach to support clients from requirements through delivery.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as a hands-on technical lead for cross-functional product teams building bespoke cloud solutions.
  • Lead discovery sessions and take accountability for the design and delivery of modern Platform Engineering solutions.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise in DevOps culture, tooling, delivery methods, and best practices—internally and for clients.
  • Drive effort estimation and Agile story-pointing aligned with business and user outcomes.
  • Create technical case studies, training materials, and guidance for Slalom teams.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives and events that foster a strong community culture.
  • Champion a culture of learning by:

o Presenting at technical conferences and community groups

o Writing blog articles

o Participating in partner-coordinated workshops

What You’ll Bring

  • Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, including Multi-AZ deployments
  • Deep understanding of database migration tools and methodologies (e.g. AWS DMS, Oracle DataPump)
  • Expertise in Infrastructure, Network, and Security Architecture
  • Proficiency in Database Administration
  • Familiarity with HA/backup solutions (e.g. Cloud-native tools, DataGuard, DataPump)
  • Strong Linux/Unix administration skills
  • Proficient in IaC (CloudFormation or Terraform) within AWS environments
  • Scripting and automation experience (e.g. Bash, Python)
  • Experience leading large-scale, multi-terabyte database migrations
  • Strong technical documentation and writing abilities
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and toolchains

Highly Desirable:

  • Expertise in Oracle/RDS performance tuning and optimization
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. AWS Solutions Architect, Database Specialty, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)—noting that OCP may be less relevant in MDP contexts)
  • Containerization experience (e.g. Docker)
  • Exposure to ingestion and compute tools:

o Kinesis (Data Streams, Firehose)

o Glue (for batch ETL)

  • Familiarity with orchestration frameworks:

o Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions

  • Experience with modern storage/query tools:

o Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Amazon Athena, Redshift, Snowflake

Our Values

Our culture and values reflect each individual Slalomer. We are dedicated to encouraging workplace diversity and ensuring all our people, from any background, can contribute to their full potential. We wish to build a team that echoes the diversity of the communities we serve, and our values are an active part of our everyday, guiding our decisions.

What keeps us here?

When we moved to Australia in 2020, we had no idea just how important our work/life balance would need to be. We’ve asked our consultants what makes Slalom a great place to work and the most common answer – “the freedom to be ourselves when life gets in the way”. We make a big effort to bring everyone together and allow space when space is needed. We believe in helping each other thrive in work and life and are proud to invest in benefits that include holistic wellbeing, meaningful allowances, and investment in our team’s professional, technical, and personal growth.

Slalom is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all qualified applicants. Slalom does not discriminate on grounds of race, religion, or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, marital, domestic or civil partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis as protected by applicable law.
