The Role
At Last Mile Health (LMH), we work to deploy a health worker within reach of everyone, everywhere. Are you a highly organized, health-focused individual who is passionate about improving access to care and strengthening health systems? If so, you may be our next Field Program Coordinator for the Scaling Near Vision Glasses Distribution Project in Ethiopia.
The Field Program Coordinator will play a key role in the successful coordination and implementation of Last Mile Health’s (LMH) eyeglasses distribution initiative in Ethiopia. This role is responsible for supporting the technical delivery of activities, including the upskilling of Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and the integration of vision screening and reading glasses distribution into community health services.
Working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and LMH’s Ethiopia country office, the Field Program Coordinator will lead the scale-up efforts to reach at least 472,500 people within one year. This includes ensuring efficient use of existing HEW training systems to integrate advocacy, screening, and distribution efforts into the national service delivery package.
About the Scaling Eyeglass Distribution by Health Extension Workers (Livelihood Impact Fund - Phase II)
Last Mile Health (LMH), with support from the Livelihood Impact Fund and in partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health (MOH), piloted a successful program that integrated basic eye care, particularly vision screening and presbyopia identification, into the national Health Extension Program. Through the pilot, Health Extension Workers (HEWs) successfully distributed more than 26,000 eyeglasses for presbyopia correction.
Building on this momentum, LMH, in collaboration with the MOH and Livelihood Impact Fund, plans to reach at least 472,500 people with vision screening and distribute approximately 354,375 near-vision eyeglasses, leveraging 11,313 HEWs trained in primary eye care.
This is a fixed-term role, located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is open to Ethiopian nationals. This is a contract for 12 months starting in August 2025, with possible renewal for an additional 6 months.
