The DevSecOps & Database – Platform Engineering team is responsible for building and securing the foundational database infrastructure that supports critical enterprise systems. Your Role

As a Principal Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the future of our Oracle platform engineering capability. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design, automation, and optimisation of Oracle Exadata infrastructure to support enterprise-critical workloads.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) in Oracle platform engineering, providing technical leadership and mentoring across engineering teams.
  • Driving platform reliability and performance, embedding Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles into day-to-day operations.
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for consistent, scalable, and secure platform provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Integrating Oracle database operations into CI/CD pipelines, enabling continuous delivery and reducing deployment risk.
  • Collaborating closely with DBAs, SREs, cloud engineers, and application teams to streamline operations and improve platform resilience.
  • Leading incident response and root cause analysis, ensuring rapid recovery and long-term remediation of platform issues.
  • Championing observability and monitoring, implementing tools and practices that enhance visibility, alerting, and performance insights.
  • Ensuring compliance with security, governance, and audit requirements, embedding best practices into platform design and operations.
  • Contributing to platform strategy and roadmap, influencing architectural decisions and engineering standards across the organisation.
  • Supporting cloud integration and migration efforts, particularly for Oracle workloads on AWS, OCI, and hybrid environments.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and technical excellence across the platform engineering function.

Your Technical Skills & Expertise

  • Extensive expertise in Oracle Exadata, including RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and performance tuning for high-volume OLTP systems.
  • Proven experience deploying and managing Oracle workloads on AWS, OCI, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager, REST APIs, and database observability tooling.
  • Understanding of database DevOps practices, including Liquibase or similar tools for schema versioning and automation.
  • Significant experience designing scalable, secure, and resilient platforms within large, complex enterprise environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in managing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipeline development and management, using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and CircleCI.
  • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, with proficiency in integrating and utilising observability tools such as OpenTelemetry (OTel), Prometheus, Grafana, and Observe.
  • Advanced scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, Go, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with configuration management tools including Ansible, Chef, and Puppet.
  • Solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including DNS, load balancing, VPCs, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Knowledge of service mesh architectures (e.g., Istio) and API gateways for secure and scalable service communication.
  • Expertise in identity and access management, secrets management, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and CIS Benchmarks.
  • Strong commercial awareness in cloud cost management, budgeting, and optimisation strategies.
