Under the supervision of the Research Program Manager, we are seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator who will lead the surveillance activities conducted by the Maryland Emerging Infections Program/Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs), a statewide infectious disease surveillance project sponsored by the CDC.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Function as the main contact for the MD ABC’s activities including cases, pathogen, and source identification and classification. Function as an onsite resource for information and consultation for other ABC’s activities.
  • Review information submitted by hospitals and laboratories to identify cases, confirm case residency and pathogen source information, conduct reviews of patient charts at reporting facilities, complete case report forms, and enter and maintain case information in a database.
  • Perform quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to ABCs special projects.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigator and senior staff to assist with grant proposals, resubmissions, and reports by gathering supporting documentation.
  • Interact with CDC project officials and respond to information requests. Attend CDC ABCs meetings and provide feedback/identify problems/offer solutions for various studies.
  • Assist with ordering study supplies and provide administrative program support.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned. Contribute to other EIP projects/tasks as needed.
  • Approximately 15-20% of this position may be spent away from the office traveling to and conducting medical record reviews at medical facilities throughout Maryland, so ability and willingness to function independently and to travel locally and statewide is required.
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, take initiative, be self-motivated, able to identify and accurately record medical record data, and able to maintain several ongoing project activities at any one time.
  • Occasional out of state travel to the CDC campus for in person meetings.
  • Cross train on core ABCs administrative and isolate-related activities to provide support as needed.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and REDCap databases and have a working knowledge or familiarity with medical terminology, laboratory reporting, and chart review procedures.
  • Must be experienced in handling multiple tasks at once and able to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Should be comfortable with a great level of independence and self-directed learning.
  • Excellent organizations skills and attention to detail required.
  • Highly developed verbal and written skills and interpersonal skills required.
  • Able to respond to varying demands and manage competing priorities.
  • Individual must have a reliable form of transportation for statewide travel and be willing to travel to healthcare facilities throughout Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience in infectious disease surveillance, prevention/control, or clinical trials.
  • Experience in conducting reviews of clinical charts.
  • Experience with REDCap.
