Mentoring Services & Leadership Development (MSLD) serves as a go-to resource for undergraduate students seeking personal encouragement, career support, leadership development, academic advice, and more. Indiana University's Office of Student Life administers MSLD as a way to support students especially young people from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds throughout their academic journey and beyond.

Job Summary

The MAP coordinator plans and facilitates a series of group discussions to develop mentoring and leadership skills in IU Bloomington undergraduate students. The MAP coordinator plans and coordinates bi-monthly and monthly non-credit bearing training topics that instill mentoring and leadership applications. Bi-monthly discussions will occur 6 weeks during the fall and 6 weeks during the spring.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Facilitates planned, bi-monthly/monthly, virtual or in-person group training and instruction.
  • Structures, plans, and facilitates virtual or in-person group training and instruction that applies organizational leadership and mentoring concepts to MAP proteges throughout the academic year.
  • Assists with the recruitment of MAP proteges.
  • Instills and teaches values relative to education, diversity, and leadership excellence.
  • Maintains MAP Canvas Site.
  • Maintains reasonable virtual and/or in-person contact with MAP (Zoom, phone, text, e-mail).
  • Provides bi-weekly updates and session summaries to the FASE director, and documents hours in Kuali.
  • Informs/collaborates with FASE peer mentors and proteges concerning activities and programs.
  • Assesses student learning and development.
  • Maintains Ad Rx and SAS profile for protege scheduling and documentation purposes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Indiana University as a sophomore or above in class standing
  • 2.9 GPA

Preferred

  • 3.0 GPA

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Experience as a peer mentor, resident assistant (RA), tutor in high school or college, or similar field
  • 1 year of experience as a FASE Peer Mentor or successful completion of the MAP leadership series OR 1 year of organizational leadership involvement
  • Current or former FASE Peer Mentor with 1 year of experience with mentoring and leadership concepts or applications

Preferred

  • Experience holding a leadership position in a student club, cultural organization, or academic society
  • Volunteer experience with youth programs, educational outreach, or community mentoring

SKILLS

Required

  • Knowledge and understanding of FASE Mentoring Program and services
  • Knowledge of issues and training needs of FASE protégés
  • Knowledge and understanding of FERPA
  • Ability to organize, communicate, and facilitate training sessions
  • Ability to communicate and convey information from FASE director
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated initiative, responsibility, and ability to guide others
  • Ability to balance mentoring responsibilities with academic and personal commitments

Preferred

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills

Additional Information

This position is work-study eligible.

Work Location

Bloomington, Indiana

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$15.00 per hour

Work Hours

Approximately 10 hours per week. No more than 29 hours per week across all IU positions.

This part-time role offers flexible hours to accommodate academic schedules.
