This position performs diagnostics and repairs of light automotive gasoline and up to heavy-duty Diesel equipment.
Mechanic will maintain proper tools to effectively perform essential job functions. Perform pre-road tests on vehicles for diagnosis and post-road tests for verification of accurate completion of repairs.
Perform front end alignments, all wheel alignments, differential services, brake service and repairs, air conditioning service and repairs, engine service and repairs, tire replacement and/or repairs, electrical repairs, tune ups.
Ensure safe and effective operations at all times for all NMDOT vehicles.

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience/education in the following areas:
Six (6) months of work experience in a repair shop or maintenance facility. Educational experience in automotive service repair may substitute for required experience. Must possess or obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License, Class A (or equivalent license from another state) within one (1) year of hire.
This position is designated a safety sensitive position within the meaning of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and must abide by all provisions of the Federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
Employment requires successful completion of a post-offer physical and pre-employment drug test; employment is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must have or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one (1) year of hire.
Driver's License verification is also required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Position will be required to travel throughout the state.
Work is performed in varying weather conditions, on hard or smooth surfaces, uneven ground, exposure to noise, fumes. Work may also be performed in an office setting using the computer, fax machines, copiers, printers and scanners.
Occasional travel is required. Operation of tow truck/slider or transport is required. Ability to lift up to 50lbs or more. Will be required to travel statewide with possible overnight or more stays.
Must be available to respond to emergency call outs on short notice.
