General Summary of Position
The Senior AI Data Scientist with the MedStar Health AI Center of AI Excellence drives innovation and transformational change in healthcare by leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Focuses on leading the developing AI-powered solutions to enhance clinical care and patient outcomes, and to streamline clinical and administrative workflows. Requires deep expertise in AI/ML techniques, including generative AI and large language models (LLMs), as well as traditional statistical modeling and data science methodologies. Collaborates closely with engineers, clinicians, researchers, and IT teams to develop intelligent systems that address complex healthcare challenges. Responsibilities also include assessment and evaluation of internally developed and vendor solutions to ensure products meet our standards for safe and effective use of AI. Oversees and mentors data scientists and guides the data science strategy of the Center of Excellence.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Leads collaborations and projects with engineering, clinical, research, informatics, and IT teams to create data and intelligence driven AI/ML models and systems to solve complex healthcare problems.
As part of the MedStar Health AI Center of Excellence, supports governance efforts by performing and overseeing internal and external model reviews, evaluations and in-vivo monitoring.
Leads multidisciplinary technical teams to design, develop, and evaluate new approaches for data driven decision-making.
Designs, develops, applies and maintains data pipelines to support extraction, remodeling and feature store development as required.
Oversees and mentors data science team members in the Center of Excellence.
Takes leading role in the growth of the Community of Practice in data science at MedStar Health, including mentoring junior data scientists across the community.
Collaborates with research scientists within the Center of Excellence and at MedStar Health Research Institute on internal evaluations and model/product validations.
Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
Participates in meetings, serve on committees and represent MedStar Health in externally-facing research efforts as appropriate.
Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
