Position Information
Join TxDOT’s Alternative Delivery Division as a Transportation Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing the planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of design-build (DB) and comprehensive development agreement (CDA) projects. These innovative project delivery methods aim to streamline processes, reduce costs, and accelerate the completion of critical infrastructure projects across Texas.
This position is based out of TxDOT's Stassney Campus in Austin and performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas to include design, construction, materials, and/or maintenance for the Alternative Delivery Division's design-build program as part of the Implementation and Maintenance Section.
You will join a highly motivated, talented, engaged, and dedicated team to help ensure oversight and compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with District and Division personnel, governmental officials, and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Recruitment Bonus May Be Available!
You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5,0000 if hired as a Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV. You must maintain 12-months of continuous employment with TxDOT and meet all other conditions. Current and previous permanent employees (excluding Summer Internships) do not qualify for the Recruitment Bonus.
This position is for one Transportation Engineer II, III, or IV, and the Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position offered based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, other appropriate factors, and Department needs. Applicants should have substantial transportation-related project management and transportation consultant management experience along with in-depth knowledge of highway design, construction, and maintenance oversight.

Transportation Engineer II: B25 ($69,572 - $114,099 annually)
Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as design, construction management, and/or operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with district and division personnel, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Transportation Engineer III: B26 ($76,530 - $129,430 annually)
Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as design, construction management, and/or maintenance of design-build and comprehensive development agreement projects. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with district and division personnel, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Engineer IV: B27 ($84,182 - $142,374 annually)
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as construction management, and/or operations and maintenance management of design-build and comprehensive development agreement projects. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with district and division personnel, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education (All levels): Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
