This trainee position involves the operation of highway construction and maintenance equipment, alongside a range of manual labor tasks as part of a highway or bridge maintenance crew. The individual in this role will undergo training aimed at obtaining the necessary licensing and certification to handle heavy construction machinery, specifically including Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) vehicles and loaders with a bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less. As part of their training, the employee will learn to conduct and document essential pre- and post-operation inspections, ensuring that all equipment is safe to operate and minimizing wear and tear through appropriate field adjustments. Additionally, the trainee will become proficient in managing various hand and foot controls, utilizing safety features such as seat belts, and performing tasks such as installing and removing tire chains on dual wheels, all of which are critical for maintaining operational safety and efficiency on the job.
