THE POSITION

The Clarion County Maintenance Organization, part of the Department of Transportation, is actively seeking dedicated full-time CDL Equipment Operators to enhance their workforce. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Equipment Operator with PennDOT, you will be integral to maintaining the safety and functionality of Pennsylvania's roadways. Your role encompasses a variety of essential tasks, including snow removal, which is vital during winter months, as well as engaging in construction activities that contribute to infrastructure improvements. In addition to operating heavy machinery, you will also be involved in manual labor, which may include tasks such as lifting, digging, and transporting materials. Furthermore, you will be responsible for performing minor repairs and conducting preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment, ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely. This position not only offers a sense of fulfillment through community service but also allows you to make a tangible difference in the lives of Pennsylvania residents by enhancing road safety and accessibility on a daily basis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours vary from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); Or
• Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; Or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
• Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
