POSITION SUMMARY

The Advanced Practice Nurse provides high quality, cost-effective patient care that supports established specialty practice objectives and strategic organizational goals.

The Advanced Practice Nurse establishes preventive measures, diagnoses and treats illnesses and disorders in a competent manner that is consistent with medical practice and joint protocols as established with the collaborating physician. This position ensures that patient care is delivered in a cost-effective manner, managing and utilizing resources optimally. By demonstrating compassion and respect for the individual, the Advanced Practice Nurse provides care that meets the customer's expectations.

The Advanced Practice Nurse works collaboratively with physician leaders, administration and staff to improve clinical outcomes. This position participates in quality improvement efforts organization-wide and plays an active role as a member of the appropriate divisional and departmental committees. The Advanced Practice Nurse maintains current technical knowledge and seeks educational and professional opportunities to enhance clinical practice and competency.

The Advanced Practice Nurse contributes towards the organization's educational programs and teaching activities. This position participates in the peer review process to enhance clinical practice, demonstrating sound judgment and respect for colleagues.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

For PA: Bachelors' degree in a physical science from an accredited institution required. Completion of an accredited physician assistant/surgical assistant program also required. Must be certified or eligible for certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants and the New Jersey State Board of Education and Licensure.

For NP: Master’s degree in nurse practitioner or physician assistant studies from an accredited school or as grandfathered by NJ law. Current licensure as an RN and APN in the state of New Jersey and certified by the State Board of Nursing or as a PA-C in the state of New Jersey and certified by the State Board of Medicine. Certification within area of specialty required and granted privileges from Atlantic City Medical Center medical staff.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Appointment as an Allied Health Practitioner with the Medical Center in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws. ACLS required. BLSHCP required.

EXPERIENCE: Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, blood-borne pathogens, and potential injury.

Physical demands include but are not limited to considerable stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing heavy equipment and excessive standing and walking. Lifting approximately 25-30 lbs frequently.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This Advanced Practice Nurse collaborates with the physician and reports to the appropriate Administrator. This position also reports to Nursing or Departmental Leadership.
