Description
This role supports the development and implementation of manufacturing systems for powertrain components such as crankshafts, gears, and transmissions. The engineer will be responsible for delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient machining and assembly processes that align with current standards and new model program goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead equipment installation, power on, run capability, and equipment handover to the powertrain plants.
- Initiate bids, evaluate, recap bids for equipment purchase; work with Purchasing to write and place orders.
- Work with OEMs, suppliers, Product, and Plant engineering teams to resolve engineering and program delivery issues.
- Interface and coordinate project related items such as facilities, safety, ergonomics, material handling & kitting, tooling, and gauging.
- Support discrete event simulation for constraint analysis; work with Industrial Engineers (IE) to assess and improve throughput
- Collaborate with Product Development to estimate facility/tooling costs, improve quality, and reduce labor.
- Use virtual tools (e.g., Teamcenter, VisMockup, CATIA) to evaluate design feasibility for high-volume operations.
- Write, modify, and maintain process sheets and cycle line layouts.
- Lead resolution of assembly and machining feasibility issues.
- Manage schedules for tool design, build, and implementation.
- Oversee tooling installation, start-up, and commissioning at manufacturing sites.
- Support tooling buy-offs at vendor facilities.
- Document and implement lessons learned from new model launches.
- Contribute to SQDCPMEI (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People, Morale, Environment, Innovation) initiatives.
- Interface with cross-functional teams including Product Development, Supplier Technical Assistance, and Material Planning & Logistics.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- 3D CAD review proficiency (Teamcenter, VisMockup, CATIA, or equivalent)
- Understanding of PFMEA and failure mode avoidance
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of statistics (control charts, GD&T, data collection)
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
