The Data for Science and Health (DSH) Digital Technology team is looking to recruit an Infectious Disease Technology Lead. The successful applicant will help develop, shape, and execute projects related to digital technology, which advance the strategy of Wellcome’s Infectious Disease Solutions Programme.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be based within Data for Science & Health reporting to the Head of Digital Technology, Climate and Health & Infectious Disease, collaborating closely with colleagues within the Infectious Disease Solutions Programme to develop a vision for trustworthy data science initiatives to minimise the impact of infectious diseases in the most affected communities.
Data and software are at the heart of modern science and health. From new tools and methods in artificial intelligence, computational modelling, and analysis, to policies and standards for data collection and sharing - the effective use of data and data science is key to delivering Wellcome’s strategy. The Data for Science and Health team enables this by shaping and funding data science initiatives to advance Wellcome’s mission.
What will I be doing?
In this role you’ll develop, design, evaluate and execute projects related to digital technology which advance the objectives of Wellcome’s Infectious Disease Solutions Programme. You’ll draw on appropriate expertise across science, health, industry, and funding sectors to develop a strategic view of the digital landscape, - whether software, analytics, or infrastructure - needed to advance infectious disease research and development. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities, shape funding approaches, and translate strategic objectives into tangible solutions. This is a varied and exciting role which offers broad exposure across Wellcome, including identifying strategic award opportunities, relationship building with other funders, and representing Data for Science and Health.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have: Excellent knowledge of the current state of and trends in data and digital technologies in science and health. Technical knowledge, experience, or training relevant to our Infectious Disease Solutions programme would be advantageous.
We’re especially interested in hearing from candidates with a background in leveraging advanced data analysis methods, data science, AI, or software engineering, and/or those with experience with platforms, tools, analytics, infrastructure for infectious disease data.
