Role purpose and overview
The Associate News Editor is a senior member of the home news editing team. They will be primarily responsible for working with other news editors and reporters to develop the main news stories of the day and take those stories on in a way that sets the agenda.
In this role, they will need to form strong relationships with other news editors, reporters and departments across the newsroom.
The role requires someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about the news. They need to be an original thinker who can suggest and deliver new angles on stories and spot stories that other news editors may miss. They will also have the energy, persistence and precision to ensure that copy and publishing plans are perfectly prosecuted and delivered to tight deadlines. They need to have the confidence to make decisions independently, while understanding when to elevate issues to more senior colleagues, including navigating legal issues.
