Job Description:

The Office of the Chief Information Officer is currently seeking a IT Applications Developer Senior - COBOL to join their team. Under limited supervision, the selected candidate will be responsible for all phases of modification for mainframe programs, including coding and maintaining JCL and COBOL programs. The selected candidate will communicate with users to determine system needs, research requested enhancements, perform design and analysis of computer systems, and perform related work as assigned. This individual will perform these duties for new and existing mainframe programs from various agencies within the State.

The candidate will work with personnel from other agencies to help support their mainframe solutions. Knowledge of these complex systems will be needed to answer questions, address issues as they arise, and make modifications on a timely basis.

Job Duties: The selected candidate will work with other developers to maintain complex mainframe systems while consulting with agencies on development projects. They will participate in the full range of software product development activities, including requirements gathering; analysis and definition; functional and technical design; coding and testing; implementation, and production support. The candidate will also be working with less experienced developers to train them on tools and techniques that are used by the team. They will be required to be on call off-hours to assist with issues that may arise outside of normal work hours.

The selected candidate will need an understanding of how data is passed between web applications and mainframe applications, and issues that could arise in those communications. They will be working on multiple projects at once and will need to have the ability to prioritize projects to meet project goals.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, mathematics, engineering or other related field and two years of experience, education, or training in coding computer applications; programming experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using Cobol, JCL, DB2, Compuware Topaz Workbench. Candidate will possess excellent time management skills. They should be able to provide on call support outside of 8-5 business hours. Exhibits cooperative and collaborative behavior with teammates.
