Job Description Summary:
The system director supports and aligns teams to empower associates and clinicians through accurate, timely information and development via coaching and teaching. This role champions quality and patient safety across OhioHealth, working closely with the VP of Quality and Patient Safety, Chief Clinical Officer, and other executives to improve healthcare safety and effectiveness.
The director provides strategic direction for all OhioHealth Quality, High Reliability, and Patient Safety Initiatives, collaborating with key leaders and stakeholders. They stay informed on quality and safety trends to support initiatives and foster a culture of safety and high reliability. The director encourages event reporting and cause analyses, learning from safety events to enhance system-wide and local improvements.
They also provide resources for the Quality, Safety, Service Council and related workgroups, oversee the Quality & Safety department, lead matrixed teams, and liaise with OhioHealth facilities, practices, and national organizations. Additionally, they ensure alignment between system, hospital, and ambulatory improvement efforts.
Responsibilities And Duties:
Key Responsibilities
Collaborates closely with the Quality and Patient Safety Vice President and the Quality leadership team to advance all priorities under the OhioHealth Quality, Reliability, and Patient Safety Program.
Leads the development and execution of strategic initiatives aligned with the OhioHealth Quality and Safety Strategic Plan, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and support.
Facilitates engagement of physicians, clinicians, and administrative staff across the system in process improvement efforts aimed at elevating patient care and safety standards.
Role Breakdown
25% – Team Leadership: Provides day-to-day leadership for the Quality and Safety team, offering vision, direction, and resource support across all initiatives, including Quality, Patient Safety, Peer Review, and Regulatory. Focuses on advancing the enterprise toward top-decile performance in patient care.
25% – Strategic Relationship Management: Works under the direction of the VP of Quality & Patient Safety to build and maintain strong relationships with physician quality leaders, care site/OPG executives, and clinical enterprise leaders to drive Quality and Patient Safety initiatives.
20% – Systemwide Alignment: Serves as the lead liaison for all OhioHealth quality leaders, ensuring alignment and consistency in quality and patient safety efforts across the system. Oversees the development and implementation of the annual quality scorecard.
10% – Program Development: Designs and implements programs that support OhioHealth’s strategic quality and patient safety goals, with a focus on the quality quadrant of the balanced scorecard. Provides leadership on CMS Conditions of Participation and other relevant regulatory matters.
10% – Performance Monitoring: Tracks Patient Safety Event and Quality Indicator data against national benchmarks. Uses insights to assess the effectiveness of current programs and recommends enhancements to the Quality leadership team.
10% – Communication & Engagement: Develops and executes communication strategies to keep senior executives, physician leaders, and associates informed and engaged in patient safety, clinical quality, and error reduction initiatives.
