GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Principal Planning Analyst supports the development and activation of strategy via data analysis, market research, stakeholder engagement, and project management.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategy and Business Planning: The Analyst participates in the strategy development and activation processes for assigned business units/markets/service lines through completion of the below duties and responsibilities.
- Project Management: The Analyst works on and contributes to a portfolio of small, medium-, and large-scale strategic initiatives (“internal” consulting engagements), which will require the Analyst to:
- Build and maintain work plans to guide tactical completion of work; and
- Execute the work plans, ensuring delivery of high-quality work products within clearly defined timelines; and
- Communicate regularly with all applicable stakeholders regarding progress, barriers, risks, and opportunities; and
- Work collaboratively with Strategy and other leaders to prepare these strategies for activation by applicable operators to help the enterprise realize its desired objectives.
- Data & Analytics: The Analyst queries, extracts, and analyzes data from several sources to provide insights on growth and performance opportunities in support of our strategic efforts. The Analysts will translate those insights into a cogent story with findings and recommendations that supports management decisions while providing ongoing consultation and analytical support for such efforts. Specific duties including, but are not limited to, evaluating market utilization trends, tracking market share and volume performance, evaluating segments by service lines, specialties and markets, quantifying leakage and continuity of care opportunities, understanding the levers of financial performance, and collecting applicable volume and other inputs for financial business cases.
- Tools and Training: The Analyst will learn, maintain, and aid in the team’s training + adoption of various tools and methodologies necessary for strategy development and activation.
- Environmental and Competitive Intelligence: The Analyst monitors national, regional, and local trends and create, distribute, and/or present intelligence reports to the relevant stakeholders, both within discrete projects and on a recurring basis.
- Certificate of Need: The Analyst develops in-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements for covered services, provides consultation on CON requirements to system clients. Manages the preparation and submission of CON documents and establishes contacts within MDCH for project consultation.
- Customer and Market Research. The Analyst participates in the design, implementation and analysis of internal and external market research projects. Develops reports of findings and communicates results to internal clients.
Secondary Duties:
- Liaisons with other departments as necessary to complete projects.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Director, Strategy & Activation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Five to seven (5-7) years of experience within a healthcare setting required.
- Five (5) years of experience of advanced proficiency with data retrieval and analysis, database management, and spreadsheet analysis required. Project management skills required.
- Experience with mapping software preferred.
- One to two (1-2) years of Certificate of Need, Strategic Planning, and/or business plan development experience, preferred.
