This is a 12-month limited term position with the possibility to extend up to a maximum of 24-months and may become permanent.

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager Il, the Staff Services Manager I Specialist (SSM I Spec) will oversee the modernization and expansion of the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP provides low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs. The SSMI Spec will be responsible for the continued development and statewide implementation and coordination of the SFMNP electronic solution (e-solution), and expansion of farmers participating in SFMNP. In addition, the SSMI Spec will serve as OGA’s public relations coordinator for all OGA grant programs by gathering and sharing success stories, preparing annual reports, and publicizing the success of OGA’s programs. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the SFMNP Phase II statewide rollout of the e-solution.
  • Review the progress of the project, discuss outstanding project issues and mitigation strategies, and communicate upcoming project activities.
  • As the SME, develop and conduct training to all statewide local agencies on the e-solution platform, and ensure partners are aware of, and in compliance with, the most up-to-date systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and conduct training statewide to authorized farmers who will be transacting as a part of the statewide transition (Phase II) of the SFMNP e-solution.
  • Develop and analyze various reports from the e-solution platform.
  • Develop and coordinate the publication of an OGA annual report that describes the outcomes, impacts, and successes of OGA grant programs.
  • In coordination with the CDFA Public Affairs Office, prepare and distribute news releases, public service announcements, correspondence, newsletters, brochures, social media posts, and other public information designed to communicate key messages to increase public/stakeholder awareness of OGA grant programs.
  • Independently work with OGA grant program recipients to develop and share success stories to both the CDFA Executive Office, stakeholders, and the public.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are performed indoors up to 70% of the time. The remaining 30% involves traveling to a variety of locations within California to conduct onsite performance site visits, attend trainings, workshops, or meetings on behalf of the OGA The travel requires use of common carriers (airplanes, trains, etc.) and automobiles. The employee’s workstation is located inside the OGA and is equipped with standard office equipment. The employee’s work place is 1220 N Street, Room 120.

Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent’s ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA’s Telework Policy.

Department Information

The Office of Grants Administration (OGA) is the central focal point for the Department of Food and Agriculture’s (CDFA) review, implementation, and coordination of all grant and contractual agreements entered into on behalf of the CDFA. OGA is also responsible for analytical, forecasting, planning and oversight activities associated with grant funds. OGA develops, recommends, and implements innovative approaches, strategies, and policies in managing grant funds to maximize their benefit to CDFA.

Special Requirements
