Job Summary Job Summary The 4th-8th grade Science/STEAM Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering instruction in science for grades 4-8. Teachers are expected to provide an enriched curriculum for all students, offer extended opportunities for those capable of deeper understanding, and support students who need additional assistance. Beyond academics, teachers play a vital role in fostering students' social and emotional growth. They are expected to maintain regular, meaningful communication with parents and guardians and cultivate a collaborative, collegial relationship with peers and administrators. Teachers must uphold and support The Gooden School’s Mission Statement, model respectful behavior, and appreciate the excellence within our community. Additionally, they should actively seek opportunities for professional growth and contribute to the development of their colleagues. The Science Teacher position is an exempt position and reports to the Assistant Head of School and the Head of School. In all of the various facets of this job, the Science Teacher exercises the utmost discretion and honors confidentiality in all matters. The Gooden School is an independent Episcopal TK-8th grade school set in the foothills of Sierra Madre. We seek an enthusiastic, committed, and creative individual to serve as a full-time fourth through eighth-grade science and STEAM teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver innovative, high-quality instructional units in science/STEAM
  • Utilize varied methods and approaches to material, integrating technology, assessments, projects, labs, and experiments to encourage and create engaged learning in the classroom
  • Provide frequent, meaningful feedback to students, including report cards with individualized comments.
  • Communicate effectively with parents
  • Serve as a middle school advisor
  • Perform other duties (recess, lunch, dismissal, etc) as assigned
  • Attend and actively participate in all faculty meetings
  • Participate in special school events including but not limited to, Open House, Back to School Night, and special student performances
  • Chaperone overnight grade-level science field trips

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification or license.
  • Experience in science or STEAM education.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and a deep passion for working with children.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster partnerships with families and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and needs.
