This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect.

This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinates all inter- or intra-unit administrative functions of the DJJ transportation program.
  • Coordinates all inter- or intra-unit administrative functions of the DJJ transportation program.
  • Communicates with detention facilities statewide and other law enforcement agencies regarding youth behavior and youth court dates to ensure youth get transported back to the appropriate facilities prior to court dates.
  • Maintain appropriate logs and reports as needed and ensure proper, timely maintenance on automobiles assigned to the unit.
  • Maintain documentation on other vehicles used.
  • Report and request needed equipment to Branch Manager or designee.
  • Assists in providing support services to transportation staff and Branch Manager or designee as needed.
  • Interprets laws, regulations, policies and procedures for the DJJ Transportation Branch regarding detention.
  • Attends professional meetings, to gather or distribute program or technical information
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of professional experience in management or administration.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Administrative or business experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
