Position Function:

The program coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the MSU engineering undergraduate programs at the MSU Gulf Coast Campus. This is part of a joint AAS/BS program between MSU and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and the position is located at Gautier, MS. The program coordinator will be engaged with advising undergraduate students, resolving student issues and concerns, recruiting undergraduate students, being a liaison between the Gulf Coast campus and the main MSU campus, and complete other responsibilities as assigned. These duties will be shared with another Program Coordinator and the assignment of specific duties will be made by the Dean of Engineering on an annual basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides academic advising, in conjunction with the faculty, for incoming and continuing undergraduate students in the programs offered at the Engineering on the Coast campus.

2. Meets with prospective engineering undergraduate students and their parents and arranges building tours as requested by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships or the Dean of Engineering. Coordinates undergraduate student recruitment as necessary in consultation with the BCoE’s Admissions Coordinator.

3. Organizes and conducts orientation sessions for incoming students to their program of study.

4. Maintains undergraduate student records for the Engineering on the Coast Campus students and related student databases. In conjunction with the respective Starkville Campus department, University Registrar, and Dean of Engineering, reviews transcripts for transfer credit and assist in the certification of undergraduate students for graduation.

5. Responds to inquiries pertaining to the undergraduate programs and coordinates communication with prospective students.

6. Provides students with information regarding departmental scholarships, solicits applications, and assists Department Heads in the selection and administration of such awards.

7. Assists the Department Heads in the scheduling of engineering classes and classroom assignments. Assists students in gaining admission, as may be appropriate, to sections that are temporarily closed.

8. Assists in maintaining records and coordinating changes pertaining to the undergraduate curricula and course descriptions. Interprets University regulations pertaining to undergraduate academics and curricula matters.

9. Works with the Starkville ECE Program Coordinator, the ME Program Coordinator, and the ISE Program Coordinator on academic issues.

10. Assists in the development of student recruitment brochures and similar material for dissemination to the public. This will be done in conjunction with the BCoE Publications Manager and approved by the Dean of Engineering.

11. Assist the Department Heads in such other matters as may be required for the successful administration of departmental programs.

12. May supervise lower graded staff and/or student employees; may participate in training and evaluative sessions and recommend methods to improve advisement activities.

13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

14. Will lead the purchase of supplies and equipment for the Coast campus, reconcile purchasing documents, and provide necessary reports to the Dean of Engineering.

15. Will assist in the preparation for accreditation visits.

16. Will focus primarily on internal matters on the Coast campus in cooperation with another Program Coordinator who will focus primarily on external matters.

17. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.

2. Two years experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.

2. Three years of experience working directly with engineering and/or computer science students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Basic computer skills required, including competency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

2. Good communication skills, both written and oral.

3. Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with a diversity of individuals.

4. Basic bookkeeping skills to include preparation and reconciliation reports for program expenditures.

5. Strong organizational skills.

6. Ability to learn new skills and workflow processes.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor setting.

2. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.

3. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.

4. Work will normally be conducted in the office on the campus of MGCCC Jackson County, however, the ability to work from home when required by the University is needed.
