As a Senior Data Engineer at Alexion, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of robust data pipelines and integration solutions for our global platforms. Working as part of a collaborative IT team, you will focus on building, optimizing, and deploying data workflows that enable reliable analytics, AI, and reporting. You will apply best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and performance in all solutions you deliver.

You will take responsibility for delivering well-engineered data solutions, supporting data quality efforts, and helping with the implementation of data governance standards and compliance requirements. You will have opportunities to learn new technologies and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining data pipelines and ETL/ELT solutions to integrate diverse data sources.
• Working closely with IT and business teams to translate data requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Supporting deployment, testing, and operationalization of data pipelines, monitoring for errors or inefficiencies.
• Contributing to the implementation of data quality, security, and compliance standards across data assets.
• Documenting data engineering solutions and participating in code and design reviews.
• Keeping up to date with industry practices and new technologies applicable to data engineering.

Essential Skills/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Typically 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data management, or analytics roles.
• Hands-on experience delivering scalable data solutions using SQL, Python, and ETL/ELT frameworks.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (preferably AWS) and data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake.
• Exposure to tools such as dbT, Fivetran, and Apache Airflow.
• Familiarity with data modeling (e.g., star schema, 3NF) and data integration patterns.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to document work clearly and communicate data engineering solutions to technical stakeholders.
• Understanding of data governance and compliance principles (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), with eagerness to learn and apply frameworks like FAIR and TRUSTED.
• Knowledge of data observability, quality tools, and best practices for data reliability.

Desirable Skills/Experience

• Experience working within the biotech, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry.
• Familiarity with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and knowledge graph.
