Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists San Antonio is looking for a surgery Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.

About You

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll play an important role in pets' lives by providing comprehensive care throughout their journey. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to surgery assistance, to support services including admitting and discharging patients.

Qualifications:

• Preferred but not required: CVA (Certified Veterinary Assistant)
• Previous experience in a veterinary setting or animal handling is a plus
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions carefully
• Knowledge in anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep & sterile technique
• Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and handle animals of various sizes
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Team-oriented with a positive, proactive attitude
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with animals under stress or pain

Key Role Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing, and positioning
• Set up surgical suites with necessary instruments and supplies
• Support surgical technicians and veterinarians during procedures as needed
• Monitor and comfort patients during recovery from anesthesia under supervision
• Clean, disinfect, and restock surgical rooms and equipment
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of surgical areas and treatment spaces
• Accurately label, organize, and restock surgical instruments and supplies
• Perform basic patient handling, restraint, and comfort tasks
• Support post-operative care including bathing, walking, and feeding as directed
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and sanitation standards
