Job Title: Back End Developer (Cloud/Kubernetes/Python)

Job Description

We are looking for a talented Backend Software Developer to join our team. The role involves designing and developing backend software for a cloud-based tool aimed at engineering building systems, and providing digital twin style support. The position is remote, ideally based in the Vancouver area, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend software for a cloud-based tool supporting engineering building systems.
• Create features for data collection, analysis, and AI-based decision making.
• Build serverless functions using AWS Lambda and containerized APIs on Kubernetes (EKS).
• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices in Python using frameworks such as Flask.
• Define and maintain infrastructure-as-code with Terraform across AWS and GCP.
• Review and troubleshoot existing Node.js services and legacy PHP code.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with at least one web framework like Flask.
• Experience with Kubernetes, ideally AWS EKS, serverless architectures, and container orchestration.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS core services.
• Experience using Terraform for modules, state management, and CI integration.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions.
• Proficiency in AI/ML libraries like Transformers, Hugging Face, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
• Ability to read, debug, and maintain Node.js and PHP code.
• Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Knowledge of networking and database design, both relational and NoSQL.
• Ability to quickly identify defects and debug code.
• Ability to create supporting documentation including design documents, architecture diagrams, test procedures, and reports.
• Good oral and written communication skills for professional communication with management and technical teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the building automation, or industrial controls industry.
• Scripting skills in Bash or PowerShell for automation tasks.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect or GCP Professional Cloud Developer certification or equivalent experience.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification or equivalent experience.
• Experience with observability tools.
• Familiarity with container security best practices and CIS benchmarks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
