Your Impact

The Learning and Development Specialist supports the creation and delivery of engaging training initiatives that enhance employee development and agency effectiveness. This role administers and maintains the agency’s Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring training content is accessible, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational goals. Working in partnership with the Co-Learning and Development Directors (clinical and non-clinical), this position contributes to the design, deployment, and facilitation of both in-person and online learning experiences, and continuously evaluates training impact to recommend improvements. The role plays a key part in fostering a culture of learning and supporting staff development across the agency with nearly 1,000 employees based out of 40+ sites.

Your Skills and Duties

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conduct training needs assessments and identify opportunities to enhance knowledge-based content and learning experiences.
  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design, develop, and deliver dynamic training programs—including eLearning, live workshops, and blended learning—using a variety of media formats.
  • Create and maintain training curriculum, facilitation guides, course materials, and the agency-wide training matrix; ensure all training requirements are met, tracked, and documented.
  • Oversee end-to-end administration of the Learning Management System (LMS), including uploading SCORM-compliant content, maintaining training records, and providing backup support to the HR Systems Administrator.
  • Provide end-to-end administration of the learning management system, including the development and loading of SCORM compliant courses.
  • Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • In partnership with HR, assist in the planning and facilitation of new hire orientation and support the employee experience during the first 90 days.
  • Support the administration of performance appraisals, competency assessments, and agency compliance reporting; generate and distribute training reports.
  • Track internship placements, trainings needs, and coordinate with site locations for possible placement options.
  • Coordinate logistics and materials for in-person and virtual training events, including ordering supplies, managing attendance and providing onsite support required by the lead Trainer.
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in learning and development to inform program innovation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of three years of professional work experience in learning and development, training delivery and instructional design; human services nonprofit or clinical settings preferred.
  • Solid understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE), and training evaluation strategies.
  • Proven experience facilitating engaging in-person and virtual training sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with a focus on clarity, engagement, and learner experience.
  • Proficiency in using training development and authoring tools such as Canva, Articulate Rise, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with learning management systems (LMS).
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, including a minimum of two onsite days per week at the South San Francisco office and travel occasionally to meet the essential job functions.
  • Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing i.e. Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index clearance, TB/Health and Physical, valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record (Motor Vehicle Report) if required to drive for this position.
