Respiratory Care Practitioner Student Tech (RCP Student)

Position: RCP Student Tech

Department: Respiratory Therapy

Reports to: Director/Designated Manager

Summary

Provides quality care that is dependent on physician order or directed by the Respiratory Care Practitioner. Performs respiratory procedures based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. Promotes restorative health and/or supportive care using the cardiopulmonary process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate respiratory care.

o Completes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assist others to complete work on time

o Provides patient care by collecting, monitoring, and reporting information and responding to basic needs

o Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferences

o Promotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidences, and changing patient needs to next caregiver

o Demonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing and use of appropriate PPEs

o Recognizes safety risk and communicates to RCP/RT regarding falls and injury

o Contributes to the department’s performance improvement activities

o Demonstrates competency in performance of skills

Essential Skill Competencies

  • Set-up and monitoring of low flow oxygen
  • Aerosol therapy
  • Hyperinflation and airway clearance therapy
  • Electrocardiograms
  • Equipment cleaning, stocking, transporting, etc.
  • Assists the Respiratory Care Practitioner in cardiorespiratory arrests

Minimum Requirements: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Student Tech is a student that is currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Care Program and continuing education toward respiratory licensure. The student must be in their second year and certified in BLS.
