The Software Engineer III leads the development, maintenance, and enhancement of complex software systems that solve customer and user problems. This role brings detailed understanding of the nuances of software development, and depth in a variety of languages, paradigms, technologies, and frameworks to effectively contribute in a wide array of different projects. Software Engineer IIIs are experts in digesting complex tasks and business requirements and aligning a group around an implementation. They are responsible for the smooth delivery of maintainable systems by establishing effective team processes.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Translate business requirements and objectives into effective technology solutions
  • Plan, design, and build secure, scalable software that meets project and organizational needs
  • Lead all phases of the development lifecycle, from task creation to production deployment
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to deliver new features and improvements
  • Establish technical processes that result in testable, maintainable software with minimal technical debt
  • Troubleshoot technical issues across application and infrastructure codebases
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement and software system evolution
  • Identify opportunities to enhance technology strategies beyond project-level considerations
  • Provide clear, specific, and constructive feedback during code reviews
  • Mentor and coach team members to support their technical development and growth
  • Maintain deep knowledge of supported products, workflows, and business operations

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise with database management systems, including SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL
  • Extensive experience designing, implementing, and maintaining relational databases, data warehouses, and ETL processes
  • Proficient in Data Analysis, Data Modeling, and Data Integration using tools such as ERwin or similar
  • Familiar with Data Governance frameworks and practices to ensure data quality and compliance
  • Expert in both front-end and back-end web development, including UI components, client-server integrations, APIs, and data persistence
  • Ability to apply abstract software development concepts like single-responsibility, cohesion, and data immutability
  • Expert in at least one modern programming language such as Node.js, Python, Go, Java 8+, or Ruby
  • Proficient with leading frameworks like Express.js, Gatsby.js, Django, Flask, Rails, or Spring.io
  • Skilled with relevant libraries and technologies within the chosen programming language ecosystem
  • Proficient with HTML, JavaScript, and translating designs into CSS
  • Proficient with at least one front-end framework such as React, Angular, Vue, Ember, Backbone, or Svelte
  • Experienced in building applications in containerized development environments
  • Expert in advanced Git commands, including rebasing, squashing, and cherry-picking
  • Ability to guide and assist other engineers with source code management using Git
  • Comfortable discussing technical tasks and development processes with team members
  • Basic understanding of container orchestration technologies such as Amazon ECS and Kubernetes
  • Familiar with serverless concepts and frameworks like Serverless.com and AWS Lambda
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS
  • Working knowledge of software infrastructure, including network, compute, and storage resources
  • Basic understanding of application, network, and infrastructure security best practices
  • Skilled in developing stored procedures, functions, and triggers to support application development
  • Familiar with cloud-based database platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  • Strong understanding of federal security standards such as FISMA and FedRAMP for database design and implementation

Prior Experience:

  • 15+ years of federal onsite experience supporting agencies and understanding agency-specific policies and workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and technologies quickly.
  • Experienced in building relationships, influencing others, and providing strategic technical guidance.

Project Specific Qualifications:

This role includes additional qualifications to help deliver bold, impactful work for our clients.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline required: Master's degree preferred

Clearance:

  • U.S. Citizenship required and the ability to OBTAIN and MAINTAIN a Public Trust

Requirements:

  • FIFTEEN (15) or more years of professional experience supporting agencies and understanding agency-specific policies and workflows.
  • Holds an active AWS Certified Developer Associate, Solutions Architect Associate, Solutions Architect Professional, or equivalent cloud certification.
  • Holds a current Certified Scrum Master certification.
  • Holds a current CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • General work experience may be substituted for education. The requirement for education levels can be substituted at the rate of 2 years of experience for every year of education. An associate’s degree is 2 years of education, a Bachelor’s degree is 4 years of education, and a Master degree is 6 years of education. The years of specific experience used for satisfying an education requirement cannot also be used as filling the work experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.

Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings.

Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.

Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

  • Minimum Salary: $102,540
  • Salary Midpoint: $133,302
  • Maximum Salary: $164,064
  • Hiring Range: $102,540 - $150,000
