Posting Summary

The Brain Health Institute (BHI; brainhealthinstitute.rutgers.edu) and Rutgers Addiction Research Center (RARC; addiction.rutgers.edu) are recruiting a tenured or tenure track faculty member at the senior Assistant/Associate/Professor level to expand our research program in the Epidemiology, Etiology, and Prevention of substance misuse and addiction. This is an open-rank search for a new faculty member within the RARC working in Epidemiology, Etiology, and Prevention, conducted in concert with three additional searches for new faculty at the RARC to lead research in the domains of Basic Science; Treatment and Recovery; and Public Policy. Senior candidates will be considered for Associate Director positions for each of these domains, though junior candidates are encouraged to apply.

The RARC is an initiative of the Brain Health Institute and is a translational research center that brings together researchers from across the Rutgers campuses, medical schools, and health systems for collaborative, interdisciplinary work focused on tackling addiction. With over 150 faculty who work across the domains of Epidemiology, Etiology, & Prevention; Basic Science; Treatment & Recovery; and Public Policy, the RARC is the only comprehensive addiction center in New Jersey. The RARC creates opportunities for collaboration and community, bringing together faculty with a passion for innovative, cross-disciplinary research who are employing cutting edge approaches to studying substance misuse and addiction. The RARC includes multiple affiliated Centers, such as the Center for Tobacco Studies; Center for Alcohol and Substance Use Studies; Center for Gambling Studies; Center for Risk, Resilience, and Prevention; Center for Population Behavioral Health; Center for Youth Social Emotional Wellness; and the Center for the Genomics of Psychiatric Health and Addiction. Overview

The successful candidate must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree, and a research program with currently active federal funding addressing key questions in the epidemiology, etiology, and prevention of substance misuse and addiction. More senior candidates will be considered for an Associate Director role in the RARC, a leadership position overseeing the growth of targeted research areas within the RARC. Rutgers faculty have a “home” department, and can have affiliations with multiple departments (e.g., psychiatry and psychology). We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented minority candidates.

The RARC’s Epidemiology, Etiology, and Prevention domain is especially interested in expanding research in the areas of dissemination and implementation science; clinical/ medical epidemiology and cohort studies; community-based substance use prevention; programs to advance health equity for underrepresented and marginalized groups; digital/mobile health for assessment and intervention in substance use and behavioral addictions; and the microbiome and substance use disorder.
