The IT division strives to be a collaborative and responsible asset to the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.

Why does the job exist?

This position exists to provide technical support to agency users both in-person and remotely. This position will be responsible for utilizing various tools to resolve technical issues on laptops, tablets, printers, server and network infrastructure. This includes network outages, computer failures, cloud-solution issues, and server crashes. The position will also be responsible for helping to maintain and troubleshoot the PRC's IT infrastructure including any network appliances and cloud applications. This position will troubleshoot issues at all levels (I, II, III), and is expected to track and document issues and solutions. This position will be expected to participate in enterprise-level technical projects. The position is also expected to adhere and enforce agency general IT and security policies.

How does it get done?

Working with guidance from the IT Director:

  • Independently provide technical support and troubleshooting at all levels (I, II, III).
  • Escalate issues as necessary to the relevant IT staff members.
  • Configure and deploy new computers and phones.
  • Configure and deploy applications as needed, both in VMs and physical servers.
  • Configure and deploy other IT assets as needed.
  • Track and document issues and solutions.
  • Improve and document proccesses and procedures.
  • Assist in identifying and troubleshooting both systems and network issues as necessary.
  • Assist with identification, tracking, and mitigation of security risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor and respond to help tickets for any external applications as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a modern and secure working environment, including networks and servers.
  • Other relevant tasks as needed.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years of experience in:

  • Resolving help desk tickets in an IT setting
  • Configuring Windows and Linux servers and end-user devices
  • Configuring and deploying both android and apple phones
  • Configuring and maintaining networks
  • Troubleshooting software and hardware issues both in person and remotely
  • Configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting printers and other peripheral appliances

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, innovative, and creative. They will be independent workers who enjoy problem-solving and are interested in constant improvement of their knowledge and skills.

The ideal candidate will have at least some familiarity with most, if not all, of the following: Microsoft Azure, VMWare, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft AD, Defender, Windows 11, Windows Server (2022), Linux (various distros and flavors), Adobe products (specifically Acrobat DC), GLPI, Zabbix, Automox Remote Management, Powershell scripting, Python, M365 Suite (particularly Teams and OneDrive), NM State Purchasing and Disposition, Cisco scripting, Ubiquiti network equipment, Palo Alto, Juniper.

The ideal candidate will also be familiar with basic networking concepts and security standards and practices.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in providing technical support to end- users for computer hardware, software, and/or network related problems. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

Driver's License, Successful completion of background check prior to hire and must either possess or be able to obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
