Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Job Summary:

Our client in Normal, IL is looking for a Senior Functional Safety Engineer. This is a contract position.

What You Will Do:

Most Important skills/responsibilities:

  • Work with engineering, operations and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct Equipment Safety Buyoffs with a cross-functional team.
  • Complete Risk Assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Our Client´s standards.

In this role, you will be involved with the design and specifications for new machinery and equipment for Engineering & Manufacturing sites. You will also be an active participant in equipment acceptance testing and commissioning as well as evaluating proposed changes to equipment and machinery for safety requirements.

  • Work with engineering, operations and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities.
  • Develop equipment safety standards where needed and continuously improve existing standards.
  • Complete Risk Assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Our Client´s standards.
  • Conduct Equipment Safety Buyoffs with a cross-functional team.
  • Identify safety opportunities and suggest corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Create and deliver training related to equipment and machinery safety.
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment compliance.
  • Work with department EHS staff to support as needed.
  • Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, etc. as needed.

What You Will Need:

Basics:

  • Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system design.
  • Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO and other applicable standards.
  • Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluating performance level & circuit structure.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical circuit design in accordance with NEC, UL 508a, and NFPA 79.

Preferred:

  • Certified Functional Safety Professional CFSP/CFSE.
  • Certified Machine Safety Expert.
  • Experience in Battery/EV Manufacturing.
  • Experience with national Standards Development (UL,NFPA,ANSI).
  • Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, hazardous material inventories.
