Position Summary
The Reporting Intelligence Manager leads the reporting arm of the Client Intelligence team, overseeing the intake, execution, and quality of cross-functional data requests. The scope of this team, and therefore this role, includes client intelligence, as well as related market, competitive, and talent intelligence, with close coordination with our financial intelligence team. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day reporting operations and for rethinking and scaling the team’s approach to handle a rapidly growing volume, complexity, and dimensionality of requests across the firm. Reporting to the Director of Client Intelligence, the manager ensures high-quality, timely, and well-documented data outputs, while developing scalable processes, maintaining the firm’s BI dashboard library, and building capabilities through training and standardization. Portions of this work are done in alignment with firmwide data governance practices and in collaboration with the Data Architect, Data Integrity Lead, and Strategic Insights Leader.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable self-service and automated reporting systems to meet rapidly growing demand, using prioritization frameworks to ensure timely, high-impact delivery of insights.
- Re-engineer reporting workflows and develop standardized templates and processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and reduce duplication across requests.
- Audit, manage, and maintain the library of internal reports and dashboards, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with user needs.
- Create and uphold reporting standards, guidelines, and best practices, and influence analytics efforts firmwide.
- Take a proactive, consultative role in refining reporting outputs, ensuring stakeholders receive strategically aligned insights, not just raw data.
- Manage the queue of reporting and data requests, setting expectations, refining requests, and ensuring delivery aligned with user sophistication.
- Partner with internal business units (e.g., Innovation, Finance, Strategy, Client Value, Marketing, HR, IT) to uncover emerging analytics needs and contribute reporting insights that inform decision-making.
- Foster strong alliances within Client Intelligence and across the firm, supporting shared ownership of reporting priorities and data use, in coordination with the Data Architect, Data Integrity Lead, and Strategic Insights Leader.
- Support ad hoc reporting and data analysis projects, helping users across departments answer data-related questions.
- Build and maintain deep expertise in the firm’s data ecosystem, including CRM, data warehouse, billing systems, and other key data sources.
- Stay current on business intelligence and data manipulation tools used within the firm to ensure accurate, scalable analysis.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate data sources and analysis methods to ensure reliability, quality, and fitness for purpose.
- Document and maintain definitions of metrics and terminology used in the context of reporting deliverables.
- Develop and implement training programs for analysts, emphasizing efficient use of data sources, tools, and standard processes.
- Mentor and coach information and data analysts, regardless of reporting lines, to support skill-building and reporting excellence.
- Develop an understanding of key clients, their businesses, and the firm’s lawyer/client relationships to inform reporting context.
- Identify recurring data needs and build tools and processes to streamline response and drive strategic alignment across reports.
- Develop and maintain a consistent internal brand for reporting deliverables—professional, responsive, high-quality, and well-documented.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- .Job duties and responsibilities included are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Reed Smith reserves the right to revise or modify job duties and responsibilities at any time.
