Job Title: 2nd and 3rd shift Machine Operators

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled machine operator to join our production team. The ideal candidate will be flexible and willing to work in various areas of production or distribution, operating equipment for at least half of their working hours. You will be responsible for ensuring quality finished products by making necessary equipment adjustments and performing major production line changeovers independently.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment on production lines at least 50% of working hours.
  • Make equipment adjustments to ensure quality finished products.
  • Perform major production line changeovers independently.
  • Handle powerful rare earth magnets.
  • Conduct special packaging projects as scheduled.
  • Maintain equipment according to SOPs and preventative maintenance schedules, and train others effectively.
  • Collaborate with production planning to determine efficient production schedules.
  • Case and palletize finished products for inventory.
  • Operate material handling, packaging, and processing equipment.
  • Sample product for quality control checks.
  • Inspect materials and supplies for defects; report issues to supervisor.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including worksheets and computerized tracking systems.
  • Verify product and supplies accuracy.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble machinery.
  • Use assembly, packaging, and measuring tools.
  • Work with other departments to resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to monitor Statistical Process Controls and address quality issues.
  • Assure food safety and quality by monitoring critical control points and reporting non-conformances.
  • Communicate continual improvement suggestions proactively.
  • Follow safety, sanitation, production, quality, and food safety procedures.
  • Strive to reduce waste and recycle products when possible.
  • Work safely at all times, follow safety rules and policies, and participate in scheduled training.
  • Report injuries and near misses promptly and propose corrective actions.

Essential Skills

  • General labor experience in production, warehouse, or manufacturing.
  • Machine operation experience (1+ year).
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand for 8+ hours and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs+ frequently.
  • Computer systems operation.
  • Sanitation and cleaning skills.
  • Food production knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (HSD) or GED.
  • Ability to read and comprehend moderately detailed instructions, operating procedures, and safety rules.
  • Effective communication skills in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Capability to train others in general manufacturing.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate various types of machinery.
  • Capability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and interpret bar graphs.

Work Environment

Work in a production environment within a food-grade facility, requiring adherence to PPE protocols such as hand washing, wearing gowns, face nets, and beard nets. The environment may expose employees to moving mechanical parts, high places, and strong fumes from spices. The noise level can be loud, and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals may occur. Employees generally work alone or with one other person.

This is a direct placement based out of Norway, Iowa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.
