Loudoun County, Virginia, is located approximately 35 miles west of Washington, DC and plays a key role in the Northern Virginia region, participating in regional undertakings including those related to sustainability, transportation/transit and road infrastructure, parks, public safety, and economic development. Recognized as one of the fastest-growing counties in the entire United States, Loudoun boasts a thrilling and diverse local economy that will continue to expand with the recent opening of the three new Metrorail Silver Line stations.
The Department of General Services directly supports County residents and County government by providing responsive and effective emergency and essential public works support, facility maintenance, energy management, solid waste management, environmental management and compliance, stormwater management, internal services, vehicle support and transit services.
Loudoun County’s Department of General Services is seeking a strategic leader to oversee the department’s Management and Administration functions. Reporting to the Department Director, the Assistant Director will provide oversight to two divisions – Internal Services and Finance & Administration.
The Internal Services division currently has a staff of approximately 18 employees located in Surplus, Records, and Central Mail Operations, comprised of a diverse team of professionals while managing a combined $38M operating budget and a $15M CIP budget.
The Finance and Administration division has a staff of approximately 16 employees who prepare the annual departmental budget, manage grants and contracts, purchase goods and services needed for the department’s 13 different divisions, and provide a wealth of operational administrative services to both our department and other County departments.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Masters Degree in Business, Public Administration or a department-related area, and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related, progressively responsible work experience including three (3) years in a supervisory or management role preferably in a government setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The successful candidate will undergo criminal, credit, and DMV record background checks to include CJIS fingerprinting.
This position requires a valid driver’s license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification) and is subject to call, 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The incumbent has responsibility, alternating with the Director and Deputy Director, to provide General Services active representation and support in the County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) during activations which may result from natural or man-made disasters or events. This position is considered “essential.”

Employees hired into Regular Part-Time Intermittent positions are eligible for limited County employee benefit programs, based on the position’s regularly scheduled hours. Benefits eligibility for temporary employees are dependent on duration of assignment and number of scheduled hours.
