About the role

As R&D Technician you Initiate, plan and control R&D projects in synthetic rope applications related to the permanent mooring of very large floating structures including floating wind turbines, floating PV installations, and oil & gas structures. You collaborate closely with Sales, Quality and Production departments as well as with the end client. You report to the R&D Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, and manage R&D projects to advance synthetic rope applications. Work in collaboration with Sales, Quality, Production, and client teams.
  • Conduct testing on high-sensitivity machines for synthetic yarns and ropes, including programming and analysis with our state-of-the-art 500T tensile test machine.
  • Implement and evaluate new products in the field, including potential installation on vessels for up to 3 weeks per year.
  • Provide technical support, translate complex technical content to non-technical audiences, and ensure clear communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay informed on advancements in synthetic rope technology and production techniques by attending conferences and seminars.

About You

  • Solid understanding of synthetic fibres.
  • Knowledge of modelling software such as Abaqus is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of physics and mechanics.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent Flemish verbal and written skills is essential
  • Master’s degree in industrial or civil engineering (or equivalent), ideally with a specialty in polymer-composites or chemistry. 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and customer-focused with a strong drive for quality. Creative problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn are highly valued.
