Leidos currently has an opening for an Analytical Chemist to join our research support team in Pittsburgh, PA in supporting the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), a U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) national laboratory (https://netl.doe.gov). This is an opportunity to conduct research with world-class scientists and engineers using state of the art equipment, contributing to new areas of applied research to enhance the nation’s energy security and protect the environment for future generations.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory is a multi-disciplinary, scientific and technical-oriented national laboratory. NETL produces technological solutions for America’s energy challenges to support home-grown energy initiatives, stimulate a growing economy, and improve the health, safety, and security of all Americans. Highly skilled professionals at three NETL research sites – Albany, OR, Morgantown, WV, and Pittsburgh, PA – conduct a broad range of research activities that support DOE’s mission to advance the national, economic, and energy security of the United States.
This position will support the effort within NETL’s Point Source Capture portfolio to understand air emissions resulting from degradation of carbon capture solvents being used in various industrial processes. This work will involve identification and quantification of emitted solvent degradation products in both the gas and aqueous phase. As part of this work, the researcher will work with a small core team of researchers in both laboratory and field setting, using analytical chemistry characterization techniques such as gas chromatography, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The researcher will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of research scientists and engineers in providing subject matter expertise in analytical chemistry which may lead to involvement in other related projects at NETL.
The researcher will be conducting research on-site at NETL in Pittsburgh, PA. As part of their duties, the researcher will be asked to participate in field tests within the United States to perform environmental sampling, often with short notice.
